OLD DANS MOTEL DIVE SITE INFORMATION
BEACH DIVES
(SKILL LEVEL: ADVANCED TO EXPERT)

Old Dans Motel used to sit right across from one of the nicest little beaches in San Mateo county. The property became so valuable that he decided to sell out, and now there are a number of homes built on what used to be "Dan's Motel". To get to this beach drive South on Highway 1 past until you see the sign for Vallemar Stgreet on the ocean side of the highway. As soon as you get on Vallemar you will come to Juliana Avenue. Turn left on Juliana and drive to the end of the block and you will be on a small cliff overlooking "Old Dan's Motel" beach. There is a small parking area just above the beach. It is only a short scramble down the cliff to the beach.

The area off the beach is very rocky with sand channels set up between the rocks. This is a very nice site, and a great place to do a tune up dive IF THE CONDITIONS ARE GOOD!!! This was a very popular abalone spot at one time before D.F.& G. decided to close all abalone diving South of the Golden Gate. This is part of Fitzgerald Marine Reserve - San Mateo County Dept. of Parks - and spear fishing for most species is allowed - check the regulations if you are not sure what fish are ok to hunt. Like most of the sites in San Mateo this is fairly shallow dive. On occasion this area is subject to pollution, so check on water quality before you go diving here. The phone number for S.M. Parks is (650) 728-3584.

The decision to dive (or not) is your responsibility. Keep diving activities within your training and comfort level. If you feel more training or experience is needed before attempting a dive, don't dive. Know personal limits, skill levels, and abilities of yourself and your dive buddy. Dive Safely and Dive Often!
